Sunday, November 10, 2019, 7:30pm A white playwright uses the shooting of an unarmed black youth by a police officer as a “jumping-off point” for his hit play that is soon to be adapted into a major movie, all without the consent of the officer involved. CANADIAN RAJAH by Dave Carley
Sunday March 8, 2020, 7:30 pm The incredible true story of Esca Brooke, born in Malaysia and son of the country’s legendary “White Rajah” and his Malay wife. In a strange twist of fate, Esca ended up in Canada in the village of Madoc, Ontario, but he was desperate to be recognized for who he was – the son of Rajah Charles Brooke – and the play depicts the dramatic showdown that ended his lifelong quest. A touring production from Toronto, presented at Market Hall. |
ICELAND by Nicolas Billon
April 28 - May 3, 2020, 7:30 pm Set against the backdrop of the banking crisis, a confrontation between a real estate agent and a tenant takes an unexpected turn. A huge hit in the 2012 Toronto Summerworks Festival, winning The Summerworks NOW Audience Choice Award, the play went on to a production at Factory Theatre and a national tour.
